Val Racher: Taking time out to visit some art galleries in London

Took some time out last month from preparing for the Lansdowne Exhibition to visit a couple of art galleries in London.

Went to Central Hall, Westminster to the Society of Botanical Artists Annual Exhibition “In Pursuit of Plants”. It was their 30th Annual Exhibition and showcased an amazing 650 selected works.

I was seriously impressed by the standard. I particularly liked a collection of miniatures by Joyce Rogerson and my vote for ‘Best in Show’ went to her painting “ The Holly Tree” ~ fantastic detail. I would definitely recommend the Exhibition to anyone interested in botanical art. I certainly plan to go again next year. Thanks to Pam for the tickets.

Also, in April went to a hustings event at the Priory Court Hotel, Pevensey. George Pitcher, journalist, author, public relations pioneer and Anglican priest, acted as moderator for the evening. The five candidates for the Bexhill & Battle constituency attended and I have to say it was a very informative and interesting evening.

I had a special edition commemorative mug printed for each of the candidates in the colours of their political party. The design on the mugs was of ‘Historic Pevensey’. I was very pleased that all five of them bought their mug because the money raised has been donated to Project 16 for St Nicolas Church, Pevensey.

Towards the end of the month, went to an SEA demonstration (Society of Eastbourne Artists) by Josie Tipler entitled ‘Birds in Flight’. She is an experienced animal illustrator with over 18 years experience and works in a variety of different medium.

Using acrylics and acrylic ink she painted a beautiful design with four birds and talked about her approach to painting as well as answering questions from members. At a previous demo I watched her produce a pastel drawing “Black Cat on a Black Background”.

The cat’s eyes were amazing. You can see her work on
