I’ve just finished my Artist-in-Residency @ the Bay Side Diner in Pevensey Bay
Since it opened in July, the new diner has been a hub of activity and throughout the summer I’ve spent one day a week there sketching customers, culinary delights and neighbouring shops, as well as giving some tuition. The sketch above is of Rose’s Fish Bar, which is a few doors along from the diner, and one that I could see when I was sitting outside on one of the few dry & sunny days we had during this summer.
It was a new experience for me and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to discuss art with a range of people both young and old, residents of the area and visiting holiday makers.
I’ve been able to demonstrate how I’ve developed my quirky style of art by showing people some of my previous sketches and discussing my approach to painting. I hope I might have encouraged one or two to pick up a paintbrush and have a go themselves. I look forward to holding further sessions during future holiday times.
I also found time to go to the Towner Gallery last month to check out the ‘East Sussex Open 2015’.
Artists across the county are eligible to enter and there were a record number of submissions this year. A total of 44 were chosen for the exhibition and these include paintings, photography, film, collaborative pieces and ceramics which were my personal favourites. The show runs until 20th September and it’s definitely worth a visit.
